Edward Snopek
(Edward Snopczynski)

1926

He was born in Trebaczew, a small village near Lubania in central Poland between Rawa Mazowiecka and Mogielnica.  His surname at birth was Snopek and it is unclear when it was changed to a more noble sounding Snopczynski.

In the birth records of his two daughters born in Trebaczew (Cecylia in 1884 and Emilia in 1886) his surname is entered as Snopczynski, while his mother's surname (she was the godmother) was recorded as Snopek in 1884 and as Snopczynska in 1886.

When Edward moved to Warsaw, the birth record of his daughter Natalia in 1888, his surname is recorded as Snopczynski; however, in the birth records of his daughter Maria (1890) and of his son Waclaw (1893) his surname is recorded as Snopek vel Snopczynski.

He moved from Trembaczew to Warsaw before 1888 and lived on Panska Street Number 66 (house number 1227 Letter A) and before 1907 moved to Tarczynska Street Number 23 (house number 5090) in Warsaw. The 1910 Warsaw directory lists "Snopczynski Edward, carpenter, Tarczynska Street 23".

When his mother Tekla died in 1925, he lived in Pruszkow. Finally, he purchased or built a house in Radosc, a suburb of Warsaw on the east bank of the Vistula River on Ezopa Street, corner of Sobierajska Street.  It is said that during World War I, he was evacuated by the Russians together with the staff of the railroad repair shop in Pruszkow, in which he worked.  This shop was moved to Charkow in the Ukraine, where later his son Waclaw married a local lady and had a daughter Wanda with her. Waclaw was murdered by the Soviet communists in the Great Purges in 1938.
