1890

Marcin Szulc, the first son of Piotr lived with him first in Lomazy then in Rossosz and finally in Lyniew. In 1875 at age 23 Marcin owned land in Lyniew. Ten years later in 1885 Marcin listed as a brewer residing in Warsaw when he was the godfather of his niece Helena Praska, daughter of his sister Zofia Praska nee Szulc and Wladyslaw Wincenty Praski. It is possible that he lived in Warsaw around 1880 and that his sister lived with him. This could explain how Wladyslaw Wincenty Praski born just outside Czestochowa and residing in Warsaw at least since 1869 met his future wife Zofia. Marcin Szulc lived in Warsaw at least until 1886 when his son Waclaw was baptized in the Holy Cross church. In his marriage certificate, although Marcin Szulc lived in Warsaw, he was a permanent resident of the Ostrow parish in the Wlodawa County (Ostrow Lubelski), where he owned a brewery. In 1885 the witness at his marriage and a person who knew his bride was Wladyslaw Wincenty Praski, his brother-in-law from about 1879, husband of Zofia Szulc, a younger sister of Marcin Szulc.

Nine years later Marcin Szulc lived in Brzesc nad Bugiem (Brest-Litowsk) and owner a brewery there, as noted in the death certificate of Wladyslaw Wincenty Praski, his brother-in-law. He owner a hotel in Warsaw, because the second witness of this certificate Wladyslaw Tomaszewski is mentioned as the manager of this hotel. Marcin Szulc lived in Brzesc at least until 1900, because his youngest son Witold was born there. Some time later Marcin Szulc moved to Grabanow, a manorial farm with a nice palace just north of Biala Podlaska, close to his birthplace in Lomazy. Marcin died in Russia during the Spanish flu epidemics in 1918. It not clear, if Marcin was close to his father Piotr and his half-brother Aleksander, because pictures of him and his family do not show his father. Marcin’s descendants did not remember about their roots in Lomazy and were not close to their cousins in Lyniew. On the other hand, Marcin was close to his sister Zofia and her family. Zofia’s granddaughter Janina Praska remembered visiting Grabanow several times. Marcin’s family had close ties to his younger half-sister Maria Szummer nee Szulc (name at birth Feliksa Marianna) that resided in Sarnaki.

Marcin Szulc was the owner of a house in Warsaw on Widok Street, number 22. After his death in 1919, this house passed to his four living children (Waclaw, Helena, Witold, and Kazimiera). A settlement was made to pay an annuity to his widow, Helena Marianna Szulc, maiden name Czalczynska. This house was sold on October 13, 1921 to Pawel Rotberg and Daniel Böhm. They sold this house on December 27, 1922 to Eljasz Woldenberg. Wladyslaw Sylwester Praski lived in an apartment in this house possibly since 1919 until his death in 1973. Emilia Praska and her daughter Janina Praska lived there until May, 1926. The records for this house survived and are available at the Warsaw Land Records Office (Hipoteka) on Al. Solidarnosci. Land Record Number 1567 (Numer Hipoteki), Land and Mortgage Register Number 64011 (Numer Ksiegi Wieczystej).

After death of Marcin Szulc, his estate in Grabanow was divided among his children. Waclaw, his wife Maria nee Wernik and their two children Marcin and Halina (Dzidka) lived in Grabanow. Witold Szulc with his wife Janina nee Michalowska and daughter Krystyna lived in Zacisze. Helena (Lunia) who was unmarried lived in Marcinow and Kazimiera Szulc with sons Antoni and Tadeusz married to Stanislaw Wilczynski lived in Wilczyn, neighboring Grabanow.

Date of death copied from the monument in the cemetery in Biala Podlaska, Poland.
